Supporting Grief Awareness During National Grief Awareness Week

This week, from 2nd – 8th December 2024, marks National Grief Awareness Week, a time dedicated to raising awareness about grief and its impact while encouraging open, honest conversations around this often-stigmatised topic.

Grief is a natural response to loss, yet it can feel deeply isolating. For those affected by suicide, the complexities of grief can be overwhelming. That’s why the Welsh Government appointed the Jac Lewis Foundation to deliver the National Advisory and Liaison Service (NALS Cymru). This essential service is dedicated to supporting anyone in Wales affected by suicide, ensuring they have access to immediate and compassionate care.

You Are Not Alone

Grieving is different for everyone. Whether you are experiencing sadness, anger, confusion, or a mixture of emotions, there is no “right” way to grieve. NALS Cymru offers a confidential service, helping individuals find the support they need to cope and heal during this challenging time.

Support and Resources at Your Fingertips

On our website, nals.cymru, you’ll find:

  • Practical tips on dealing with grief and its emotional challenges.
  • Information about our services for those bereaved or affected by suicide.
  • Resources to help start conversations about grief and promote understanding.

A National Effort to Support Grief

The Jac Lewis Foundation’s work through NALS Cymru is part of a wider effort to ensure that no one in Wales faces grief alone. By providing accessible support and fostering conversations about loss, we aim to create a more compassionate and understanding society.

Let’s Talk About Grief

Normalising conversations around grief is vital to breaking down barriers and providing support where it’s needed most. This National Grief Awareness Week, let’s take a step towards understanding and supporting those who are grieving.

If you or someone you know has been affected by suicide, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Together, we can ensure that everyone in Wales has the help they need to navigate their grief.
